Interaction with Guests

Guests will be met at a boat dock where you can park your vehicle. Depending on boating experience, guests may spend an hour with me aboard getting acquainted with the boat, safety gear and use at host’s discretion. Guests will be met back at launch site for retrieval.

The Neighboorhood

The St John’s River is the longest river in Florida and this area is the cream of the crop for sightseeing, birdwatching and experiencing natural, unspoiled Florida! With tens of thousands of acres of State and National lands surrounding the River, solitude and quiet are abundant, but with restaurants and pubs along the main stretches of the river, guests can also dock and go ashore for dining.

There are many places to swim and enjoy the water but Guests must use common sense as the wildlife (including alligators) is abundant.

The experience aboard Talisa is reminiscent of Tom Sawyer, Henry David Thoreau, Marjorie Kinnim Rawlings (Pulitzer Prize winning author of “The Yearling”). She is a shanty boat. Life aboard is an experience of days gone by and NOT the Ritz or Disney (although it is much like “Jungle Cruise” without the plastic animals!). Guests chartering can expect “cabin-like” accommodations but freedom to explore “at home” .

House Rules

Host Michael Bowman

I love the out of doors and nature! Having spent many years sailing the east coast, Bahamas and Caribbean, I was amazed at the incredible natural beauty and serenity of the protected waters of the richly historical St John’s River. I had to find a way to explore it more extensively (and more comfortably) than my kayak could provide.
